on the mean streets of chicagos infamous southside, a music pioneer was born… dj slugo, born thomas kendricks, is most famous for his influential and fundamental position as the original king of ghetto house. with 20+ years in the game, over 20 albums in his pocket and over 50 cds on the street, began a journey that lead him to become one of the original creators of a style of music commonly known as ghetto house, more recently regarded as juke.

responsible for organizing the moments event series throughout berlin, i/y is releasing an ep celebrating their collaboration with all the artists who performed and adhered to the moment s concept in the last few years. releasing music from everyone was impossible, but the 4 tracks produced by voiski, blind observatory, schloss mirabell, and i/y give a solid idea of what moments is about.

ron maney also known as dj skull lived in the southside of chicago (il, usa). his musical career started during the summer of 1986, while recovering from a broken bone. during the following years he homed his craft, djing first at basement parties, building his reputation to go on to larger events such as, loft and hotel parties, and eventually the infamous music box and power plant clubs. at the age of fifteen ron shopped his first demo at trax records. there he first met chicago s legendary dj ron hardy, working as a&r for trax records. two years, and a new alias later (dj skull) later while at the power plant, chicago s own steve poindexter heard a dj playing one of rons tracks, and met ron. steve was now a&r at saber records and invited ron to release some tracks. so in october of 1991 dj skull s first record -n.r.g. music- was released. in 1993, he released the ep -the stomping grounds- on djax-up-beats, which was more noted than the first one. over the years that followed dj skull released lots of ep s on several labels. he has become well-respected producer and dj in the techno industry

they say that to know where you are going, you must know where you come from. in 2008 akkachar founded the rwina label, naming it after the word for never-ending chaos in the tamazight dialect of his north african ancestors. over the next five years he let the chaos unfold, building the label into an unpredictable yet reliable power house of dance and electronic music. today he turns to his roots for his own debut release, a three-track ep inspired by and dedicated to the amazigh (or berber) culture found in moroccos rif mountains.

the last few years have seen chicago footwork rise to international success, and traxmans debut album - *the mind of traxman* on planet mu - played no small part in that. it showcased cornelius fergusons brilliant ability to synthesise the beat digging of classic hip hop with the high-speed abstraction of footworks house-derived beat science. the selection of tracks on this second chapter show a slightly different take on traxman s abilities. instead of bringing in concepts from other genres, he simply creates a wider variety of footwork, made with a minimal, reduced palette. often just one or two samples are selected and diced into brain-blurring cubist puzzles that bear little relation to their original sources, or anything else for that matter.

without struggle there is no progress. a lesson over four movements. raíz returns on droid with a follow up from keep secrets and degrees of motion eps. originally conceptualized some years ago during live pas, the struggle has been revamped and reshaped into four tracks all evolving from the title. as the ep unfolds, various degrees of emotion and musicality are displayed building up to the intense close on trilliance.

now ovo, the eagerly awaited new luca bacchetti ep, is here! with this work on his endless imprint, luca seems to be delineating a new soundscape, maintaining the psychedelia he introduced into his productions a few years ago, but now more synthetic and in some ways even minimalist. in ovo we can find a brace of dancefloor tracks, no gravity and the space between us, that maintain and harness luca s emotional and intricate atmospheres whilst also employing powerful sounds and elements that embrace the movement of the body. mature, emotional techno, where ethereal dream-like atmospheres find a singular expression and their own distinct identity. it is no coincidence that the whole ep was recorded entirely high up in the tosco emiliano apennines: a place where, for luca, nature is the element that most influences this new aural pathway. as he himself states: “it’s this contrast between isolated lands and the chaos of the big city that produces this state of being: a new dialogue. they are two worlds which overlap within my soul: when i’m in new york i think of these mountains and when i’m here i think of the bustle of tour life .. but it’s up here that i find the seed, in this case ovo.”
